Many of you may have received and acted on the e-mail alert below. If so, great. But we also need a very, very important follow up action. We need to focus our communication to members of the Health, Education, Labor and Pension (HELP) committee. This is critical.

If you go to congress.org and click on Congressional Directory http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.tt, and go to the Senators' websites, you can also use the web form to pay for a special hand delivered letter which you can type right there on the site. It costs $9 per letter to do that but you can send an email for free. Then you can also check a box to have it go on the congress website as a Letters To Leaders http://www.congress.org/congressorg/issuesaction/letters/ or you can post a Soapbox Alert on a specific person. http://www.congress.org/congressorg/soapbox/

Also from the Congress website you can use the Media Guide http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/media/ to send out press releases to every major media organization for free. You can do up to 5 at one time and there is no limit on how many times per day you can use that feature, as far as I know.

And it will a bit more than a click of the mouse but I am asking that you take the extra couple of minutes to do this.

It's important or I wouldn't ask.

Go to the HELP committee website. The link is here.
http://help.senate.gov/About.html

Here you will see the names of the Committee members on the left hand side of the page. Please go to the individual websites of the Republican members (this will take just a bit of leg work on your part by putting their name into Google) and calling their office or sending a fax to them (email is the least effective) about S. 1375 The Mother's Act.

Thanks very much.

YOUR URGENT ACTION IS NEEDED on a bill which has passed the House of Representatives and is about to be voted on by the key Senate Committee in charge of this legislation it is called "The Mother's Act" (S. 1375), whose purpose is, "To ensure that new mothers and their families are educated about postpartum depression, screened for symptoms, and provided with essential services...." (Note: The mainstay of treatment of postpartum depression is antidepressants or other psychiatric drugs). The bill is currently in the Senate HELP Committee (Health, Education, Labor and Pensions), which is scheduled to consider the bill this Thursday, February 14th. If approved, it will go to the floor of the full Senate for a vote (again, the House has already passed the bill, so this would be the last chance to stop it).
