Mental Health Medication
Awareness
A site by
Julie Yankowski, a Co-Founder of
CHAADA
http://www.freewebs.com/stopthemadness_now/index.htm
"...Medications that are supposed to be mood stabilizing and
improve a person’s quality of life are actually doing the
opposite for many patients.
...The
theory that I had a dissociative disorder was seriously
discussed towards the end of my treatment. Dissociative
disorder – I should say so! I had so many personalities,
voices, delusions, and hallucinations while on medications
throughout this experience that I even thought I was splitting
into different entities! It was hard not to believe otherwise
with what was going on in my head and the influence of the
medical professionals being so overbearing. Since I no longer
have these “symptoms” or more appropriately adverse and
traumatic side effects, the only explanation was the
medication."

Prozac was associated with more

send frequent e-mails containing timely news stories and other
documents about medications as well as psychiatry's impact on
society.
The first thing
you see when you visit the SSRI Research yahoo group home page is a photograph of 19 year
old
Traci Johnson,
who died from a drug-induced suicide in an Ely Lilly lab during
a Cymbalta clinical study. The drug-makers would have you
believe that no deaths and suicides occur during these trials,
and that their medications are safe. But the truth is chilling,
and you can make a difference by distributing the information
obtained on this site.
"We live in an era
in which 98% of pharmaceutical preparations have no proven
beneficial effects, in which the pharmaceutical industry has
created the fourth largest cause of death herself, the side
effects of medication, with the sole purpose of creating new
markets for its products." -- Matthias Rath, M.D., 1999
"The main cause of death in the USA is heart disease; the second
is cancer. Doctors are the third leading cause of death in the
US, responsible for 225,000 deaths every year. In hospitals,
7,000 die annually from medication errors while 106,000 die from
non-error, prescribed, negative effects of drugs." -- JAMA. 2000

Neuroleptics & SSRIs Damage
Human Brains
A site by
Linda Valentine
http://lindval.tripod.com/neurolepticsdamagehumanbrains/
This site contains
information about the effects of SSRIs and neuroleptic or
"anti-psychotic" drugs, and provides much-needed information
about where to learn more, and where to go for help if you are
caught in the system.
"WE HAVE
WATCHED OUR ONLY CHILD CRAWL THROUGH THE ENDLESS NIGHTMARE
CALLED "PSYCHIATRY." WE REFUSED TO BELIEVE ANY OF THEIR
"LABELS & LIES." WE HAVE BEEN IN THE PITS OF THEIR COERCIVE,
ABUSING SYSTEM AND MANY OF MY FRIENDS WHO ARE ALSO DEALING WITH
THESE CRIMINALS HAVE BEEN EXACTLY WHERE WE HAVE BEEN. WE HAVE
WITNESSED THE DAMAGES AND DISFIGUREMENTS OF HUNDREDS OF
PSYCHIATRIC CLIENTS WHO ARE USUALLY OWNED BY THE STATE & COUNTY.
THEY ARE ALL WORTH BIG BUCKS AND CAN BE USED FOR EXPERIMENTAL
PURPOSES BECAUSE OF THE PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN THE SYSTEM AND THE
PHARMACEUTICAL RACKETS. IT IS VERY, VERY SAD TO WATCH AS THEY
DESTROY FAMILIES, HUMANS AND LIFE!"

The Natural Child Project
A website by
Jan Hunt
http://www.naturalchild.org/articles/learning.html
This inspirational
website provides assistance to parents looking for support in
raising children in a nurturing, loving environment without
drugs. There are many articles on learning, information on the
ADHD hoax as well as anti-drug advocacy bumper stickers, and
more.
Here is
an excellent excerpt from
"The Great A.D.D. Hoax" by
David Keirsey:
"The reason I
speak of a hoax in the case of "attention deficit disorder" is
that there is no such "mental disorder" to "diagnose" and
"treat." And the reason I speak of a great hoax is that the less
competent medical practitioners use this phony "diagnosis" as a
warrant to "treat" millions of school children (over 5,000,000)
per year by intoxicating them with brain-disabling narcotics.
And make no
mistake about the power of Ritalin to disable and eventually
shrink the brain. It differs little in its destructive effects
from cocaine and the amphetamines, and is fast becoming the drug
of choice among addicts in high schools and colleges. Children
in middle schools and high schools who are required to take
Ritalin daily at school are now selling their pills to their
friends who want to get a quick fix. Of late the victims of pill
pushers are fast becoming pill pushers themselves!
...The other
problem with the idea of attention deficit is that the medics
apparently believe it is caused by its symptoms. For sure the
medics have got it backwards, and some of us are surprised that
they haven't noticed such an obvious error. Even though medical
practitioners aren't scientists, they ought to know better than
that. It's preposterous to say that the symptoms of attention
deficit cause the deficit of attention. Even though
preposterous, the medics seem to mean what they say. For example
they say that "Some hyperactive-impulsive or inattentive
symptoms that cause impairment must have been present before age
7 years." Also they say that "Some impairment from the symptoms
must be present in at least two settings (e.g. at school [or
work] and at home)." [DSM IV, italics mine]
If I were a
medic I'd be embarrassed by this sort of talk, and I suppose that
the more competent medics are somewhat embarrassed by this
obvious error. In any case the essay on attention deficit in the
DSM-IV is so poorly written that it's a wonder anybody takes it
seriously. Unfortunately a lot of medical practitioners in
America do take it seriously and even (to my embarrassment) so
do some psychologists."

Woody Matters
http://www.woodymatters.com/index.html
Using Woody's life and death to save others.
This website follows current events regarding FDA and
psychiatric drug reform.
Here is the story of Woody's suicide caused by Zoloft:
On August 6, 2003, Woody died of a Zoloft-induced suicide at age
37. He was not depressed, nor did he have any history of mental
illness or depression. He died after taking the drug a total of
5 weeks with the dosage being doubled shortly before his death.
He was given the antidepressant from his general physician for
“insomnia.”

Woody's life is
honored along with many other victims of psychiatry in our
"In Memoriam" video which you can see on YouTube or
this website.
Please share
the Woody
Matters website and
blog
with others to help them understand the fact that the
suicides and homicides on psychiatric drugs are NOT caused by
underlying disorders, but the drugs themselves. Insomnia does
not lead to akathisia and suicide.

Alcoholism Again
http://www.alcoholismagain.com/
This
website provides information about why we must remove the
treatment of addiction from the realm of mental health workers
and move it into programs like AA, NA, and other alcohol and
drug abstinence programs. It also provides commentary on social
decline in the U.S. and a counterpoint to the myth that drugs
are not harmful if they are not "abused."
Excerpts from the website:
"...We have many places to draw the battle lines in our fight
for truth and against stigma. Why not make the first line in the
sand a claim for positive terminology. Reject "substance abuse."
Let's hear it for "addiction recovery." The vast majority of us
have never willfully abused alcohol or other drugs. Nor have we
been afflicted with mental illness. And the vast majority of us
will completely recover. The problem is that we have been taught
to hide our recovery to avoid stigma! So let's come out of the
closet. Let's hear it for Recovery!
...A continuing storm of protest from around the Nation reaching
Senator Harold Hughes, the prime mover and architect of the
national reform, has supported him in introducing Senate Bill
No. 3644, to totally remove the National Institute of Alcohol
Abuse and Alcoholism from National Institute of Mental Health
jurisdiction. Whether the proposed legislation passes or not,
Federal Administration sources have issued advisory statements,
for example in the Uniform Alcoholism and Intoxication Treatment
Act, indicating that alcoholism should not be subordinated to
mental health but should have separate, autonomous status at
State levels of government.
...We
recommend that alcoholism at the State level be moved out of the
jurisdictional area associated with mental health into an
organization, such as the Service Delivery Division or Health
Services Division, with a health perspective broad enough to
accommodate the fully comprehensive alcoholism reform program.
The new organizational setting should provide for as much
alcoholism program autonomy as feasible within the limits of
sound administrative policy. Concurrently, local officials
throughout the State should be informed of the change and
advised to look to their County Councils on Alcoholism for
leadership in the planning, implementation, and administration
of comprehensive local alcoholism programs. Primary contracts,
third party agreements, and affiliations with various local
community agencies (including Mental Health for its special
services) could, of course, be negotiated directly by the County
Alcoholism Councils.
We recommend that the Washington State Council on Alcoholism be
officially appointed to serve as an advisory board to the State
Alcoholism Section and to the administrative organization
responsible for its supervision. The Council would be called
upon to deliberate and advise on the administrative and program
issues of policy, personnel, Federal and local relationships,
public and professional relations, and general program
evaluation and improvement. We are prepared to immediately enter
into coordination to the end that this recommendation may be
implemented."

Prozac:
Panacea
or Pandora? Our Serotonin Nightmare
by Dr. Ann Blake Tracy
I highly
recommend that everyone read this book. It goes into detail
explaining not only exactly why these medications do not work
but also
the many
other extremely
dangerous effects
of SSRIs and other serotonergic drugs - from suicide to diabetes
and alcohol cravings, sleepwalking, sleep murder and more. If
you have been the victim of an SSRI or other psychiatric drug,
this book puts your mind at ease by explaining how the drugs
really affect people, and gives you hope by enabling you to move
on with life without buying into the mental illness / drug trap.
Contrary to popular belief, the serotonin theory of depression
is actually backwards. The original discovery was twisted and
misunderstood. High serotonin leads to mental disturbances and
death, while low serotonin as measured by high metabolism of
serotonin produces a healthy state. This is the reason that
certain natural treatments help more with depression than drugs:
things like Omega 3, which deplete tryptophan, actually lower
the brain levels of serotonin and keep it metabolizing, or
leaving the body. Any herbal substance or drug that increases
brain serotonin or inhibits its metabolism should be avoided
like the plague.
Please order from this website to benefit the efforts of
those at the ICFDA. This is the latest edition of the book.
There are also new DVDs and tapes about how to safely withdraw
from SSRIs. Or if you would prefer,
